“’For Elohim has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and of love and of self-control.’
2 Timothy 1:7
I’ve been making some changes in my lifestyle recently. Namely with diet, exercise, and sleep. I always feel my best when I go to sleep early, wake up early, eat really clean, and get regular movement.
About 10 days ago, I decided to go back to a predominantly raw foods diet. Every time I go raw, or eat predominantly fresh, living plant foods, I feel more energy, become more productive, more creative, get more clarity, and have more peace of mind. Sounds incredible right?? So why don’t I stick with it for the long run??
Self sabotage is real. When you’re making a lot of changes at once, it can feel like you’re climbing a mountain. Especially if you try to do it on your own. So I’m just taking things one step at a time.
Meditating on the scriptures in this blog post has really been helping me with self-control. It’s only been 10 days but, Praise Yah, it’s going SO well. I’m not doing it on my own strength this time. Yah keeps bringing me back to this place for a reason. Eating this way makes me feel like the best version of myself. So I’ve decided to stop overcomplicating the matter, let go of my own ideas, and just trust in Him.
Whether you’re changing your diet, new to Torah, walking with Yah for the first time, or just trying to push yourself to get to that next level spiritually, whatever brought you here, I pray the scriptures shared will help you to gain more self-control. With Yahuah’s help, we can all stop sabotaging ourselves, be disciplined, and reach our goals.
“Become strong in discipline, do not let go; Watch over her, for she is your life.
Proverbs 4:13

Proverbs 23:20-21 TS2009
“So, then, we should not sleep, as others do, but we should watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But we who are of the day should be sober, putting on the breastplate of belief and love, and as a helmet the expectation of deliverance.”
1 Thessalonians 5:6-8 TS2009
“But know this, that in the last days hard times shall come. For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of silver, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, thankless, wrong-doers, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, haters of good, betrayers, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of Elohim, having a form of reverence but denying its power. And turn away from these!”

Her ways are pleasant ways, And all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those taking hold of her, And blessed are all who retain her.”

1 Corinthians 10:13 TS2009
“Do you not know that those who run in a race indeed all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way as to obtain it. And everyone who competes controls himself in every way. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we for an incorruptible crown. Therefore I run accordingly, not with uncertainty. Thus I fight, not as one who beats the air. But I treat my body severely and make it my slave, lest having proclaimed to others, I myself might be rejected.”
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 TS2009
“Put on the complete armour of Elohim, for you to have power to stand against the schemes of the devil. Keep Yah’s Word in Your Heart

“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name He might give you.”
John 15:16 TS2009
Do you know your purpose?
People in this modern day society often make a big deal about having “a purpose.” Because most people hate their day-jobs, everyone is searching for deeper meaning.
If you’re searching for direction, and purpose in life, I believe the answers can be found in The Scriptures. The word of Yah is available for everyone, and it’s free. Yah’s Word will show you how to live, who you are, and why you’re here. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a purpose to me.
You already know, if you’ve been around here at Set Apart Heart for a while, a huge part of my purpose in this life is to make music for Yah’s people to worship Him. That’s not the only reason Yahuah has me here, but I do believe it’s Yah’s primary goal for my life.
‘And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: for they were employed in that work day and night. ‘
1 Chronicles 9:33
Although I may not be a Levite 🙂 and I may not be able to spend every waking hour devoted to making music, that verse reminds me of how important the work Yah gave those Levites really was. They were hyper focused, working day and night to make music for Yah’s people to sing every shabbat. Shouldn’t we all do our best to prioritize the work of Yah’s Kingdom with the free time we do have? After all, we are a kingdom of priests, right? ( See Exodus 19:6, 1 Peter 2:9, Revelation 5:10.)
We all have a purpose in this life, and each of us have different spiritual gifts to express it in. 1 Corinthians 12 will give you more ideas on that theme if you’d like to go deeper. The work you do day to day may indeed be the purpose Yah has called you to. How can you use your gifts for The Kingdom of Yah?
No matter what your spiritual gifts are, there is one underlying theme that will help us ALL to stay to focused, living our lives on purpose. Follow The Word of Yahuah. Simply because you’re His child. That is your purpose. That is why you are here.
Fear Elohim, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
Ecclesiastes12:13KJV
If we all do that, and learn to seek first The Kingdom of Elohim (Matthew 6:33), the details, and the expression of what walking in your purpose looks like will become more clear as The Ruach guides you. Yahuah knows you, and He knows why He put you here, even if you don’t. So just keep trusting in Him.
Put away all distractions
Let’s put away all distractions and take some time to get clarity. If you’re already clear, let’s take time to reaffirm what Yah has already spoken by meditating on His Word right now.
You can watch the video, or just follow along with the scriptures quoted below. I pray this all helps you to continue to walk in the purpose Yahuah has given for your life.
If this video is meaningful for you, please let me know in the comments below. And if not, let me know what you’re still struggling with. We’re all growing on this journey together.
“I cry out to the Most High Elohim, To Ěl who fulfills his purpose for me.”
“Be exalted above the heavens, O Elohim; Let Your esteem be above all the earth.”
Psalms 57:2,11ESV
“Seek יהוה while He is to be found, call on Him while He is near. Let the wrong forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return to יהוה, who has compassion on him, and to our Elohim, for He pardons much.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares יהוה.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

“Do not be hasty with your mouth, and let not your heart hurry to bring forth a word before Elohim. For Elohim is in the heavens, and you on earth, therefore let your words be few.
Do not allow your mouth to cause your flesh to sin…”
Ecclesiastes 5:2,6a TS2009
“Brothers, I do not count myself to have laid hold of it yet, but only this: forgetting what is behind and reaching out for what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of Elohim in Messiah יהושע.”
Philippians 3:13–14TS2009
“For Elohim has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power and of love and of self-control. So do not be ashamed of the witness of our Master, nor of me His prisoner, but suffer hardship with me for the Good News according to the power of Elohim, who has saved us and called us with a set-apart calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and favour which was given to us in Messiah יהושע before times of old,”
2 Timothy 1:7–9TS2009
“And we know that all matters work together for good to those who love Elohim, to those who are called according to his purpose.
What then shall we say to this?
If Elohim is for us, who is against us?”

Ezra10:4ESV

“Blessed are you in the city, and blessed are you in the field.
“Blessed is the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your livestock – the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.
“Blessed is your basket and your kneading bowl.
“Blessed are you when you come in, and blessed are you when you go out.
“יהוה causes your enemies who rise against you to be smitten before your face – they come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
“יהוה commands the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and shall bless you in the land which יהוה your Elohim is giving you.
“יהוה does establish you as a set-apart people to Himself, as He has sworn to you, if you guard the commands of יהוה your Elohim and walk in His ways.”
Deuteronomy 28:1–9TS2009
And become doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Because if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror, for he looks at himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what he was like.
But he that looked into the perfect Torah, that of freedom, and continues in it, not becoming a hearer that forgets, but a doer of work, this one shall be blessed in his doing of the Torah.
James 1:22-25 TS2009
“Be of service to Him, and be at peace; thereby blessing shall come to you.”

“I will take my stand at my watchpost and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint.
And יהוה answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.”
Habakkuk 2:1–3ESV
